Arbeitsgruppe Mohrlüder

Weltweit sind viele Millionen Menschen von neurodegenerativen Erkrankungen betroffen. Diese umfassen eine Gruppe unterschiedlicher Krankheitsbilder, die durch progressiven Funktionsverlust und durch Absterben von Neuronen gekennzeichnet sind und in verschiedenen Lebensaltern auftreten können. Die damit verbundenen Symptome sind häufig Demenz und/oder Bewegungsstörungen.

Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen gehen einher mit amyloiden oder auch nicht-amyloiden Ablagerungen bestimmter Proteine. Je nach Symptomatik und Proteinablagerung unterscheidet man zwischen Prionerkrankungen, Taupathien, Motoneuronenerkrankungen, Trinukleotiderkrankungen, Synucleinopathien, TDP-43 Proteinopathien, FUSopathien, Neuroaxonalen Dystrophien und unklassifizierten Fällen.

Unsere Arbeit fokussiert sich auf Proteine, welche bei Motoneuronenerkrankungen (Amyotrophe Lateralsklerose) oder Trinukleotiderkrankungen (z.B. Chorea Huntington oder Spinobulbäre Muskelatrophie) eine Fehlfaltung ausbilden und in dieser Konformation gegebenenfalls ursächlich für die jeweilige Pathologie sind. Mit Hilfe der Phagen-Display-Technologie selektieren wir D enantiomere Peptidliganden dieser Proteine, welche in weiterführenden Experimenten genauer untersucht werden, um ihr Potential als Wirkstoffkandidaten zu erforschen und weiterzuentwickeln.
